Dr. Joakim Appelquist is acting Deputy Director General and Director of International Collaboration at Vinnova, Sweden’s innovation agency. Vinnova promotes sustainable growth by funding needs-driven research and stimulating collaborations between companies, universities, research institutes and the public sector. Every year Vinnova invests about SEK 2.9 billion in various initiatives.

Joakim Appelquist is a social scientist by training and received a PhD in Economic History at Lund University in 2005. Dr. Appelquist joined Vinnova in 2005, as an evaluation expert, working to develop evaluation and monitoring methods for RDTI projects. Since 2010, he has been the director for the International Division. The portfolio includes the National Contact Office for the EU framework program for Research and Innovation, Horizon 2020, the Swedish Point of Contact for Eureka, and Vinnova´s bilateral R&D cooperation, including the Eureka program.
